Abstract

Paul Ricoeur asserts that the being human is language-system of signs and that this is essentially symbolic. Every symbol is a sign, but not every sign is a symbol, because it hides a double intentionality that the sign lacks. In the poem “Bar La Cristina” the poet Jorge Calvetti (1916-2002) we identify the three dimensions of symbol described by Ricoeur and that lead us to understand the meaning of God in modern contemporary man.
