In this essay we propose to understand a suggestion of the construction of the image of Jesus, the main character of the Gospel according to Mark, which
occurs from the scarce narratives of his gestures recorded by the evangelist, understood as an implicit narrator. The posture of reading the Bible as literature that takes place here combines José Severino Croatto’s hermeneutic proposal, Mikhail Bakhtin’s discourse studies, Erich Auerbach’s stylistic criticism, Christoph Wulf’s philosophical anthropology proposal and Morton’s religion studies Smith. It is convenient to say that the concept of image here is taken as a subjective
abstraction and the concept of gesture is taken from a determined anthropological reflection. The result attained can be seen through the complex portraits of Jesus, such as the man who loves the needy, the rabbi and the magician. These images are not contradictory, but they have been received in different ways by the Christian tradition
