In this article we seek to present how the affirmation of the uselessness of life is presented as a way to resist the commodificational logic of capitalism. To this end, we first a read Leminski presenting how the useless gesture of poetry takes on theological contours insofar as it transubstantiates words. Secondly, we present the thought of Krenak attesting how the uselessness of life is necessary for the survival of the world against its concrete and ideological exploitation. At this point, what presents theological outlines is the very justification for exploitation – both of the human being and the land. Finally, we seek a dialogue with the Brazilian modernist search for a national spirit by presenting how it continues to follow a modern/colonial logic that ultimately reinforces the commodification of human life through the affirmation of its utility.
