Young people in the traffic: from the meaning of driving to the development of awareness

ABSTRACT Introduction: the complex situation related to human circulation has aroused many questionings. The upcoming of automobile, beside the positive dimensions, also brought a group of serious problems, standing out by its magnitude and importance, the traffic accidents. Objective: research aimed to know how the reflection about the driving sense enables the development of consciousness in university students. Methodology: two Reflexive Interviews were used, accomplished in a Collective way, with 10 university students of PUC-São Paulo/campus Sorocaba, followed by devolution (with data pre-analysis). The option for the Reflexive Interview was due, among other factors, to its intervention character, once listening carefully can be a moment of help. Grounded Theory was used for data organization. Results: this reflexive procedure has enabled comprehension of positive and negative aspects related to human circulation and aroused factors that indicate prevention: categorical statements about one's own driving skills were replaced by the acknowledgment that it still might be necessary to enhance these skills; the way of looking at the other one has had some changes, considering him as a partner, not as an opponent; life preservation has been considered a value, towards a what to do more careful, in the shared space of traffic. Conclusion: these results have confirmed the proposal that it is possible (and desirable) to think about traffic education in the perspective of consciousness development.Downloads
