Abstract

Cystic pancreatic tumors have a low incidence in the population. However, they are directly involved in a great number of pancreatic resections. According to the World Health Organization, cystic pancreatic tumors can be divided in four groups: serous cystic neoplasms, mucinous cystic neoplasms, intraductal mucinous papillary neoplasms and solid pseudopapillary neoplasms. Each neoplasm has a different behavior and risk of malignization. The great question for the surgeon is how to proceed after the detection of a cystic pancreatic tumor. We present a review of cystic pancreatic tumors and their management based on published guidelines.
