Abstract

ABSTRACT Objective: to identify the relationship between the educational level of the population assisted by the Vila Sabiá Basic Health Unit belonging to the HiperDia Program; comparing such data with the Systemic Arterial Hypertension and the Type 2 Diabetes mellitus controls carried out by the aforementioned program. Methods: Retrospective Observational Study of the medical records of 383 patients who joined the program, developed by the Ministry of Health at the Vila Sabiá Basic Health Unit/Sorocaba - São Paulo, in which groups of hypertensive, diabetic, hypertensive and diabetic patients were compared to their educational level (using the classification of the program's fulfillment brochure), divided according to gender over the year 2006. The variables studied were as follows: systolic blood pressure, diastolic arterial pressure, fasting blood glucose level, gender and educational levels. Results: statistical analysis shows there are no significant differences between education and gender levels within the variables studied. Conclusion: data indicate the absence of a direct relationship among the educational level and fasting blood glucose level and arterial blood control in those patients who joined the HiperDia Program of the Ministry of Health, in the Vila Sabiá Basic Health Unit/Sorocaba - São Paulo. Support: PIBIC - CEPE.
