Abstract

ABSTRACT Interatrial Communication is a common Cianotic congenital heart Disease which is rarely diagnosed. It is characterized by a left-right shunt, which causes an overflow in the pulmonary circulation. Frequently, it is asymptomatic, but with time it could cause dyspnea, palpitations, respiratory infections, weight deficits and on rare occasions, Cardiac Insufficiency. Its clinical signs include fixed splitting of the second heart sounds and systolic mumur in the third left intercostal space. X-ray, ECG, Ecocardogram, cardiac catheterization, MRI and nuclear medicine are the utilized complementary exams. There are various therapeutic measures like surgery and percutaneous closure of the defect. Key-words: heart septal defects, congenital heart defects.
