Abstract

In this text the analysis of 16 works is made, 9 dissertation and 7 doctors’ theses, defended between 1999 and 2006 in public and private universities in Brazil, which had as their objective adult education in movements to fight for land and in rural extension projects. Based on this analysis, a fundamental difference was observed between two groups of works analyzed: on the one hand, works connected with the Rural landless workers (MST) and their confrontation with the capitalist system; on the other hand, the works that had as objective to study the approaches made by the government and Non-governmental Organization (NGOs) in the education of rural workers, called rural extension activities. In this case, it is an approach that presupposes capitalism while, at the time, attempts to improve it, without any confrontation at any time.
