This research aimed to answer the question: “How can images of known regional pictures facilitate the understanding of a text in English?” It was intended to deepen the knowledge of facilitators of reading and interpretation of texts in English, in order to develop the habit of reading through texts related to the students’ socio-cultural context. The theoretical framework explored the importance of the reading skill, the teacher’s role, reading techniques, and the use of inference along with the use of memory for vocabulary retention. For data collection the following methods were used: semi-open questionnaire, an audio and video recording of the text interpretation activity, and oral interview. The data under investigation, whose analysis was interpretative, were provided by three third year informant pupils of a Secondary School located in Palmas-TO, Brazil.Metrics
