Abstract

This paper proposes an overt adaptation to Juliane House’s Model for Translation Quality Assessment (hereafter HMTQA) (House, 1997) in order to merge its macro-analytical framework with a lexical and syntactic corpus-based approach to evaluate translation quality. To do so, fi rstly we introduce HMTQA; secondly we argue why a corpusbased approach, along with aligning source text (ST) to translated text (TT), may play an operative role within HMTQA; fi nally we present an application of our proposal. It concerns the translation of O papel do Itamaraty from Portuguese into English: this text provides a general introduction to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) from the point of view of this governmental body.
