Ethics and Good Practices Policy

The Specialist magazine follows the guidelines of the “Principles of Transparency and Good Practices in Academic Publications” of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) and does not admit unethical behavior or tolerate any form of plagiarism.

Authorship rights are limited to those who contributed significantly to the research development, data interpretation and article development. All contributors who do not fit the authorship criteria must be mentioned in a thank you note.

Authors must have authorization from research participants to disclose the data produced, even if anonymity is guaranteed.

As for research with human beings, we expect that research based on data collected and/or generated by human informants has been previously approved by competent ethics committees, such as Plataforma Brasil and local ethics committees. It is necessary to inform the number of approval/opinion of these committees in a footnote in the body of the article.

The articles resulting from theses and dissertations must explain this information, in order to avoid self-plagiarism. Advisors should not be included as co-authors, in accordance with Law No. 9610, of February 19, 1998. Art. 15: § 1. The names of the advisors must appear in a footnote on the first page of the article.

Written or oral works by other authors, whether published or unpublished, must be cited.

With regard to peer review, The Specialist ensures that such a peer review process is blind, fair and critically constructive. As such, please do not allow unkind criticism or offense in your peer review reports. Journal editors work closely with reviewers to assess the quality and appropriateness of manuscripts and to provide critically constructive input to authors.

With regard to pre-assessment, our editorial team works to assess the quality and formal adequacy of articles prior to peer review. Editors also seek to detect plagiarism or self-plagiarism in manuscripts. However, reviewers are also asked to check manuscripts for potential (self)plagiarism.

The Specialist understands that freedom of expression in a democracy is limited by human rights and the dignity of human groups. Our magazine in no way condones hate speech or other forms of violent language.

Articles submitted to this journal will be treated as confidential documents. The editors coordinate the blind peer review process and send the submitted articles to reviewers from different institutions.
