This research aims to address different historical periods through a thematic section of the history of Brazilian education, passing through colonial Brazil until the 20th century, with the intention of elucidating how research in Science teaching was consolidated in the country. For this, documentary and legal analysis and bibliographic research were carried out. Evidence shows that the search and development of research in Science teaching in Brazil gained strength from the development of technologies introduced in other countries at the end of the 1950s. The 20th century brought profound changes in Brazilian society and these changes influenced education. In 1996, under Law no. 9,394, the guidelines and bases for national education come into force. The student becomes educated for work and citizenship, leaving aside scientific training. However, with the changes in force in the country and globalization, the Science curriculum also underwent changes to update topics, such as content on the planet's climate, energy crises and global environmental processes. In this context, research in Science teaching was very dependent on circumstances, developed mainly in times of crisis and social worsening, and this interfered with teacher training so that problems could be solved by these professionals.
