Abstract

In this article, the development and validation of a game that enables the discussion about the erasure of women
scientists and their contributions to the construction of the Periodic Table (PT) are reported. Addressing the topic of
women in science is important and necessary, given that we live in a society grounded in patriarchy, which minimizes
female achievements and appropriates them. Throughout history, the forgetting of various women scientists is
observed, who have made significant contributions to the identification of chemical elements, physical-chemical
characteristics of elements, identification of isotopes, among others. This article seeks to highlight the relevance of
the contribution of these women through an interactive QUEST-type game. The educational game covers in its
categories the history and contributions of women scientists and also content related to the PT: its organization,
properties, and the applicability of chemical elements. The game was validated with undergraduate students in
Chemistry and proved to be an effective teaching tool.

Beatriz Fernanda da Silva, Federal University of Santa Catarina

Undergraduate student in the Chemistry Teaching program at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC - Blumenau). She was a scholarship recipient of the Institutional Program for Teaching Initiation Scholarships (PIBID) by CAPES. She participated in voluntary scientific initiation in the project "In silico Investigation of New Potential Candidates for Alzheimer's Disease Treatment." Currently, she is a student in scientific initiation in the field of organic chemistry, participating in the CReATe group in the project "Encapsulation of drugs against Alzheimer's in nanoparticles or microemulsions of EHEC derivatives." She is also involved in the extension project through PROBOLSAS, focusing on the development of extension activities within the "Schools and non-formal teaching spaces: connecting UFSC and society" Project.

Karol Londero Buttchewits, Federal University of Santa Catarina
