Abstract

This study investigates the L2 Acquisition of the definite article based on the generative framework (CHOMSKY, 1995, 2001). We base our research on ideas from Slabakova (2016), Ionin (2003, 2004, 2008, 2009), Kato (2005, 2017), Marcelino (2017a, b) e Martin (2018), among others. We analyze written production data compiled from spontaneous texts produced by Brazilian learners of English as an L2, in late acquisition contexts. The data suggest that Brazilian learners of English have difficulty with feature reassembly, given the poor L2 input received in formal instruction contexts.
