Some years ago, I conceived and started developing a new concept, the neologism biocene. When I was searching the term biocene in English, I discovered a single name, isolated like an island in the ocean of the internet: Vikram Shyam. Shyam is a NASA researcher in the field of engineering and artificial intelligence. In this essay, I open a dialogue with the concepts of paleomimesis, physiomimesis, biomimesis, and anthropomimesis developed by Shyam. The concept of biocene that I use and that I have developed in my research incorporates some aspects of Shyam’s theory. However, I intend to expand it in two respects by reviewing the concept of anthropocene and by introducing the concept of mesocene, created from my own theory of mesons. The article deals only with a few aspects of the biocene. It has four objectives: (1) to establish what would be a new (-cene) era of life (bíos) now emerging with the end of the holocene from the concept of the biocene and PeTaL (Periodic Table of Life), both developed by Shyam; (2) Rectify limitations inherent to the concept of Anthropocene; (3) to propose a meaning of bíos against the organic-inorganic dichotomies; (4) to define why the new age of bíos is born in syntony with nature and artificial intelligence; hence, we must extrapolate the notion of time and inaugurate a new age for sapiens: the age of artificial life, and (5) to propose a connectionist conception of living beings, defined by the degrees of mediations organisms establish among themselves, not by their primary qualities.References
