Guidelines for AI Use

The Journal of the International GeoGebra Institute of São Paulo (IGISP), evaluated by CAPES as Qualis A2, adopts the following guidelines for the use of Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) in the academic writing of manuscripts submitted to this journal for possible publication:

1. ObjectiveTo ensure the ethical, transparent, and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) tools in the preparation of manuscripts, maintaining the integrity of authorship and academic quality. In addition to being aligned with other journals (such as Elsevier (https://www.elsevier.com/about/policies-and-standards/generative-ai-policies-for-journals?utm_source=chatgpt.com) and Taylor & Francis (https://taylorandfrancis.com/our-policies/ai-policy/?utm_source=chatgpt.com)) that also establish guidelines for the use of AI tools.

2. Scope of ApplicationIt applies to all authors submitting manuscripts to the journal, starting from August 2025, during the text preparation and review process.

3. Allowed Use (with human supervision) • Improvement of clarity, cohesion, and linguistic correctness of the text; • Stylistic suggestions or textual restructuring; • Assistance in translation or in the first draft of the text or summary (when not originally written in English); • Generation of structural outlines, provided that they are reviewed and validated by the authors.

4. Prohibited Use • Automatic production of fundamental content of the text, such as theoretical arguments, data analysis or conclusions; • Generation of unverified or artificially fabricated data or figures; • Listing AI tools as authors or co-authors of the manuscript (as they cannot assume responsibility for the content);

5. Responsibility and Review • Authors are entirely responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript, including parts generated or assisted by AI; • • They must verify citations, ideas, factual statements, or references generated by AI and correct any errors, biases, or inconsistencies;

6. Mandatory AI Use Statement When submitting the manuscript, authors must include a formal statement informing: • Name of the tool(s) used (and version), • Section(s) of the text in which the tool was employed, • Purpose and intention of the use.

Example of an AI Use Statement to Include in the Manuscript

AI Use Statement

During the preparation of this manuscript, we used the ChatGPT model (version April 2024, OpenAI) solely for enhancing the style and grammar of the initial sections of the Introduction and Discussion. All generated content was reviewed and edited by the authors, who bear full responsibility for the final content. No conceptual or analytical section was generated by AI.

7 Consequences of Misuse • Submissions that contain undisclosed or improper use of . AI (for example, without review or with fabricated content) may be rejected, revised, or editorially investigated;

8. Policy for Reviewers • Do not upload unpublished manuscripts or proposals (including files and images) into AI tools for analysis, summarization, or any other content purpose. • Use is restricted solely to enhancing the clarity and linguistic accuracy of review comments. • Any passage generated by AI must be reviewed and fully approved by the reviewer. • The reviewer retains full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and impartiality of their report, even when using AI for text refinement.

9. Policy for Editors • Do not submit unpublished manuscripts, associated files, images, or any confidential information to AI tools. • Avoid risks of breach of proprietary rights and confidentiality arising from the use of AI on unpublished content.
