Abstract

The present work follows the line of research University, Teaching and Formation of Teachers. It focuses on Teaching Credential Qualification in the course of Biological Sciences at PUC-Campinas. Its objective is to investigate the problematic that involves the formation of future science and biology teachers not only at the theoretical-practical level, but also the social, emotional and relational. Theoretical basis was obtained from actual Legislation and different authors in the area of Teacher Formation. The study used the instrument of a questionnaire applied by COGRAD/CAINST (Commission for Institutional Evaluation) to teachers of the Course and students in the Biological Sciences Department. It aimed at evaluating the Quality of Teaching and Learning that had been offered. Regarding methodology of the study, it opted for a qualitative analysis inscribed in mechanisms of a documental analysis supported by opinions and concepts of the subjects. There was evidence of a need for greater convergence of the Course in relation to the formation of teachers in the area and the disinterest of graduates in teaching in Fundamental and Middle Education. It points out the constitution of a mere technical professional who, in the light of the contemporary social-political-economic situation, ends up getting a teaching credential as a second option in the job market.
