Abstract

The strategy for implementing a program on the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for public schools in Brazil (named "Proinfo Integrado") is discussed based on international and domestic experiences. Three main objectives are emphasized: first, to offer literacy in digital technologies to students, helping bridge the digital divide across social classes; second, to help students build skills with autonomy; and third, to transform classrooms into more dynamic environments. The planning for Proinfo Integrado starts with a systemic view of ICT tooling of schools, along the lines expressed in the Educational Development Plan (PDE) for the educational process as a whole. Particular emphasis is placed in partnerships between the Ministry of Education and State and Local Educational authorities. The plan unfolds into ongoing actions for implementing ICT school capacities at three different levels, namely: infrastructure, training, and digital content production.
