CURRENT FEATURES OF THE INTERNATIONALIZATION POLICIES OF BRAZILIAN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS
Keywords:
Internationalization of higher education, Internationalization policies, Education management, Active internationalization, Passive internationalization.Abstract
This paper is a Brazilian replication of an Association Internationale des Universités’ survey, which tries to explain the meaning of internationalization of education to universities, as well as the degree of structuring of their internationalization policies and the real practices of these institutions in the international arena. The survey instrument aimed the executive in charge of the internationalization bureaux in each institution affiliated to the Brazilian Universities Forum to International Affairs. Data suggest that Brazilian universities see internationalization as cooperation programs; therefore its internationalization intents are mostly passive. Few of them have written internationalization policies that could reach the entire organization in a collective effort; as a consequence, policies when available are of little help. Though mostly supported by public funds mainly driven to research efforts, the most influential social actors in internationalization matters are researchers, and the most pushing actors towards internationalization are the students.Downloads
