<strong>THE SECONDARY EDUCATION IN CORUMBÁ – SOUTH OF MATO GROSSO (1928-1940)</strong>

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate the implantation and the consolidation of the secondary education in Corumbá – South of Mato Grosso state, which requires to treat specifically of the Maria Leite secondary education within the time base from 1928 to 1940, period in which the mentioned institution became structured. The study is based on primary sources composed of laws, decrees, regulations, the minute book of Corumbá city hall as well as presidential messages. The initial results show that following the tendency of many secondary education institutions of the Empire and First Republic of Brazil, the secondary education started as a private school whose teaching activities were focused on the interests of the local elite.
