We address in a preliminary fashion the relationship between art and politics in Zapatismo, asking what the role of art is in the movement’s project of political transformation. The paper focuses mainly on the First CompArte for Humanity Festival, an event in which for the first time Zapatista communities shared their artwork with militants and art workers from different parts of the world. Our hypothesis is that a Zapatista political aesthetic is being developed that is capable of building bridges of struggle for diverse forms of recognition.Downloads
