Abstract

The objective of this study was to understand the broader perception and attitudes of university students in relation to science and technology, with a focus on approach to responsible research and innovation. This was an exploratory study on the first stage of a broader research on the university's role in the scientific education of students, in order to identify possibilities of collaborating with the promotion and strengthening of the practice of scientific research in higher education. The data were obtained with the application of a questionnaire, elaborated by the European Commission, adapted and expanded to meet the objective of this research, which reached 148 responses from students of the courses of Accounting and Law, Campus XIX, University of the State of Bahia (UNEB). Analytical focus was conceived from nine themes, related to the RRI dimensions: 1. Public engagement, 2. Scientific education; 3. The perception of students about their scientific education; 4. Overall impact of science and technology; 5. Attitude toward science; 6. Ethics; 7. Young man and science; 8. Gender; 9. Open access. The analyses revealed a significant convergence between students' perceptions and the RRI principles, in addition to pointing out that they support, understand the importance and are willing to learn and apply this approach in their academic practices, strengthening the university's role in their scientific education.
