Editor’s Note

After being a member of the executive board for 17 years, I wrote my first editorial as editor-in-chief of the ESPecialist in 2003, in which I wrote that I expected together with my colleagues, members of the executive board, Maximina Freire, Tony Berber Sardinha and Valéria Branco Moreira Pinto dos Santos, to continue the work which had been done by my former board colleagues Leila Barbara, Heloísa Collins and Maria Antonieta Alba Celani, the editor-in-chief by the time. The task has been accomplished.

Throughout these 13 years as editor-in-chief, I have greatly appreciated the support provided by my colleagues of the executive board, members of the editorial board, past and present. Without support of the too many editorial assistants at different periods, and particularly of Angélica Miyuki Farias, Carolina Siqueira Muniz Ventura, Denise Lage Maggioli and Márcia Bonamin who have been working with me throughout this period, it would have been impossible to accomplish the task of having this journal being published especially during the difficult times we have been through more recently. Besides that, in 2012, with the support of two more new editorial assistants, Renata Mendes Simões and Fernanda Katherine Asega, the journal has been published only online, in order to meet the new social demands.

I would like to close by expressing my sincere gratitude to all these people, including also our authors and readers for providing support to keep the ESPecialist alive. I would also like to inform you all, that from this issue on, I leave the position of editor-in-chief, but I am fully convinced that the journal will continue to be useful to the academic community as it has been doing for 35 years.
