Introduction

This thematic volume of “Revista Intercâmbio” includes works presented at the “II Congresso Internacional em Variação Linguística nas Línguas Românicas” (II Congress on Variation in Romance Languages) which took place at the University of Aveiro, in June 2021.

This academic event was planned to be an in-person event, but the organizers opted for an on-line event, due to the SARSCOV2 pandemic, since the event had been postponed more than once before. Despite that, the event gathered scholars from several domains of language variation research, with special focus placed on the geoprosodic studies related to the AMPER-POR project (Multimedia Prosodic Atlas for European and Brazilian Portuguese).

Another selection of papers delivered in the congress gave rise to an e-book, which was published by the University of Aveiro, Portugal (https://ria.ua.pt/). The chapters of this e-book covered several thematic topics in the domain of the linguistic variation in Romance languages.

The present volume of “Revista Intercâmbio”, which is entitled “The Prosody of Romance Languages II”, includes 8 papers, the first of them deriving from the keynote address delivered at the Congress.

The papers in this volume consider several aspects of the prosodic variation and include corpora analyses, research methods, segmentation procedures of acoustic signals, experimental analysis techniques as well as tools for perceptual analysis.

All the papers included in this volume were submitted to an international panel of double-blind peer reviewers.

Our thanks to all the authors who have contributed to this volume. We also thank all the anonymous reviewers, not only for reviewing the texts the but also for their relevant suggestions.
