From Experimental Mathematics to a didactic tool: the role of GeoGebra in the professional development of basic education teachers

Abstract

The aim of this article is to present the results of the author's research on the role of GeoGebra in the education of mathematics teachers of basic education, based on the discussions on the concept of Dynamic Geometry that promoted possibilities for transforming the teaching and learning environment around the beginning of the 21st century when the development of increasingly accessible computer programs brought the challenge of integrating technology into basic education. The research methodology uses the concept of Experimental Mathematics applied in the problem-solving methodology in a participative learning environment. The results illustrate the trajectory of the author's research in which GeoGebra is used in different projects of improvement of teaching, learning, and education of teachers of basic mathematics, in addition to exploration activities for students.
