Abstract

The principal objective of this research is to analyze how Brazilian research on teaching practices considers this professional activity. In operational terms, this objective consists in identifying the intentions of these studies and the approaches to teaching practice, identifying the teaching practice phases and dimensions analyzed by the studies, and characterizing the access devices to the teaching practices proposed by the researchers. The analysis of this research data, with the help of a mixed thematic analysis chart, enable us to identify contributions and limits of Brazilian research on teaching practices. The results show a prevalence of the unidimensional research focused on socio-emotional and didactical dimensions, and of a vision of the teacher’s professional activity centered more on the meaning of this activity for some people who took part in the research. Access to this meaning was possible mainly through meticulous descriptions of the discourses, individuals’ - sometimes even researchers’- intuitions and interpretations. A limited number of individuals are concerned with these studies. This research reflects concerns regarding the improvement of the practices, but based on the meaning actors give to their experience. Therefore, the articulation of this meaning with what really occurs in the classroom remains largely ignored.
