Abstract

The resistance of teachers to the use of technologies of information and communication (TIC) in teaching practice is notorious. There is, however, nowadays, a strong pressure on teachers to appropriate those technologies, using them in a critical and creative way with their students. Given this divergence, we thought opportune to investigate how teachers of the State School System of Rio de Janeiro see the insertion of the computer and the network in the classroom. The research, of a qualitative nature, is aimed at answering to the following questions: (a) What are the difficulties of these teachers in relation to the use of education assisted by computer; (b) What motives lead these subjects not to use education assisted by computer in the classroom? (c) How they see the use of this technology in the school? (d) How the school should organize itself in order to improve the use of computer? The data collected, treated by content analysis (BARDIN, 2000), was confronted with positions of authors who discuss the critical use of the TIC. It was evident that teachers have a disjunctive position, which attributes to the school management total responsibility for the use of technologies, in terms of acquiring the equipments as well as in relation to the success of the projects that include them.
