Abstract

This essay consists of an attempt to understand what Oral motility means and what its scope is in the field of Speech and Language Pathology. This task was carried out through the analysis of oral testimonies and the scientific production of 11 Speech and Language pathologists who are experienced and recognized experts in the Oral motility area. We concluded that Oral Motility is the work performed by a multidisciplinary group, in which the Speech and Language Pathologist evaluates and treats the muscular groups of phonoarticulatory organs, with the objective of preventing, enabling or rehabilitating the oral functions of breathing, sucking, chewing, swallowing and speaking, present in the muscular-skeletal or mixed neurological disturbances, which are acquired or inborn, independently of the person’s age group and according to his or her structural possibilities.
