The clinical approach to stuttering and the story telling books: considerations about a clinical case

The purpose of this study is to describe and discuss the use of story telling books for children as a therapeutic instrument in the fonoaudiological clinic with children who stutter. To do so we supported our research with a concept of stuttering that is coherent with a clinic therapeutic approach centered in the person. Based on this concept of stuttering and of clinical experience, we are presenting a case that expresses how a story-telling book for children can be used. Our findings showed that the metaphor of the story being told blended into the child’s story allowed the arousal of a new and single meaning for the child as a non-pathological speech. The transformations reveled during the therapeutic process showed the appropriateness of using telling books for children as a language strategy for stuttering therapy.Downloads
