Saber, tecnologia e representação na arte Militar do século XVII: a propósito da obra de Luís Serrão Pimentel

Résumé

Este texto procura refletir sobre como um ensino de matemática empregado na obra intitulada Método Lusitânico de Desenhar as Fortificações das Praças Regulares e Irregulares, de Pimentel (1680), implicando numa pedagogia de “base racionalista” e introduzindo a matemática usada na prática do artesão com um maior “rigor científico” na aprendizagem da “Arquitetura militar”, trabalha o saber, a técnica e a representação na feitura de um espaço regular, calculado e visível. Tudo isso para refletir sobre a constituição de um modo de saber, de olhar e de representar que está na base da educação matemática. E, ainda, tomar a história da matemática por meio das problematizações de uma sociedade, de uma cultura, possibilitando a elaboração e a discussão dessa história para e no ensino atual da matemática. Abstract This text reflects on how the mathematics teaching used in the book “Método Lusitânico de Desenhar as Fortificações das Praças Regulares e Irregulares”, by Pimentel (1680), which implies a “rationalist” pedagogy and introduces the mathematics used in the artisan’s practice with greater “scientific rigor” in the learning of “military Architecture”, works with knowledge, technology and representation to make a regular, calculated and visible space. All this in order to reflect on the formation of a way of knowing, looking and representing that is on the basis of mathematics education; also, in order to view the history of mathematics by means of the problematizations of a society, of a culture, enabling the development and discussion of this history to and in the current teaching of mathematics.
